We are the Chapel Hill Players (commonly known as CHiPs). We perform sketch comedy and improv in Chapel Hill at the University of North Carolina, and beyond. Founded in 1995, we are an entirely student run organization with our own training group (CHiPs INCs). Alumni from CHiPs run in many circles, generally the silly ones. Our shows consist of short form improv games, written sketches, and varying long form improv styles.
In 2011 CHiPs received the Improvisation News INNY award for “Best In College Improv” in the nation!
We would be happy to perform at your event, fundraiser, or venue, just send us an endearing letter by post, and by “letter by post” we mean an email.
We have auditions at the beginning of every semester, and anyone with a UNC PID can try out. When an interested lady or gent first auditions for CHiPs, they are really auditioning for CHiPs INCs, which is an incubator improv training program taught by members of CHiPs.
This way we can train each other and polish up your improv skills before you try out for CHiPs! The CHiPs INCs program is once a week in the evenings, culminating with a show at the end of the semester. Once someone completes a semester of CHiPs INCs, they can try out for CHiPs the following semester! The auditions are generally on a Wednesday, with callbacks on that Thursday and Friday. Auditions are super fun, and no skill level is required to audition. We love seeing new people, SO COME AND TRY OUT!
